A freelance journalist has filed a case against Ram Gopal Verma for violating copyright act.

A freelance journalist and writer Sonal Mehta has alleged that the soon to be released film Rann is based on a story written by her and by making the film without her prior permission, director Ram Gopal Verma has violated the copyright act.Interestingly, whereas Verma does not openly deny the fact that his film may be inspired by a story written by the concerned journalist, he is unable to figure out why the she is making such a big issue out of it and dragging it to the court.Says the director, "I’m not bothered about this issue at all because I know there’s no truth to her claim. Rann is written by Rohit Banawliker. There can be endless takes on the media. I’ve made so many films on the underworld but they are not similar. ‘Rann’ has nothing to do with this lady’s idea,"

Verma further asked, “I want to know, why she has waited till just a little more than one week before the release of ‘Rann’ to make her claim? And how can she make such charges when she has not even seen one frame on Rann"Verma said that the so called journalist used to work for his production company about five years back and had come up with an idea on a film on media, whose story was somewhat similar to Rann. Verma adds, “At that point of time her story did not fascinate me and that was the end of the matter. Now, why she is doing this, I don’t know.”But this did not satisfy the journalist in anyway, who has now filed a case against the director of Rann saying he has violated the copyright act. Sonal says she is dragging Verma to court for breach of trust as she had told her story to the director in good faith and never knew that he is going to use it to make a film.

Though, the freelance journalist has filed a case against Ram Gopal Verma for violating copyright act, this has not discouraged either director Ram Gopal Verma or the producers of Runn in any way. They say that since there is no truth in allege charges made by the journalist, they are ready to fight the case in the court of law.
