Rakhi with Censor Board

Rakhi Sawant is again in the news. This time, she has sent a legal notice to the Censor Board seeking clarification on its decision to censor her new song Kameeni Tera Bhoot Chad Gaya Re. Rakhi said that the board’s decision to censor her song is totally unjustified and if the ban is not lifted with immediate effect, she will go on a hunger strike.Threatening the censor board of serious consequences, Rakhi said, “I’ve sent a legal notice to the censor board because this is the first time something like this has happened. I am not like others who do chamchagiri (flattering) of the censor board. I have given them a weeks time to reverse their decision; otherwise I’ll go on a hunger strike.”Accusing the censor board of being biased against her, Rakhi asked, “This word has been so many times by Dharamji in his various films. Vishal Bharadwaj has made a film by this name. Was the censor board asleep then?”Rakhi also does not agree to censor board’s argument that Bollywood and Television are two different worlds and whereas the word can be used in Bollywood, it does not look good when it is said on the small screen.Giving examples, Rakhi alleged that there are various serials on Television, which are showing women being raped, married repeatedly or being married to men, who are their father’s age. Isn’t that vulgar and against Indian culture? Why doesn’t the censor board take action against them? Rakhi asked the censor board to first stop these malpractices being shown on Television before pointing finger towards her.Though, Rakhi may be right in being upset with the censor board for censoring her new song Kameeni Tera Bhoot Chad Gaya Re, she must understand that Bollywood and Television two different mediums and what goes well with the first does not always suit the second.
