Jhalak taught me to overpower my emotions: Gauhar Khan

Model Gauhar Khan, who grabbed attention not only for her dance moves but also for her teary outbursts on the dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa", says that during the course of the show she learnt to overpower her emotions."It was very challenging for me to deal with my emotions and overpower them because I am a very emotional person. But I realised that because of this a lot of time my intentions are being misinterpreted. So, through this show, I made an effort to learn to hide my weakness," Gauhar told IANS over phone from Mumbai. In the show that airs on Sony Channel and started with 12 celebrities from different walks of life, the audience often witnessed Gauhar bursting into tears. The main reason for these outbursts was her differences with her former choreographer Hanif Hilal.

However, with a new choreographer, Himanshu, the 24-year-old model's worries have been laid to rest.Talking about her camaraderie with Himanshu, she said: "He is a great person. We are not only professionally comfortable with each other but we are great friends too, something that I could never establish with Hanif. We work as a team and he is not someone who thinks that he knows everything. He is always open to suggestions and I respect that."Gauhar, who was eliminated from the show earlier, re-entered through a wild card entry after getting the maximum votes."I feel great on returning, I'm very excited. It is a new lease of life for me and I want to make the most of it," she said. The model, who eventually wants to pursue acting, decided to give her nod to the show since "it is a great platform"."I decided to take up 'Jhalak...' because I thought it's a great platform. I am a model by profession, but I have always been interested in dancing. Through this show I knew I will get to learn a lot of dance forms," said Gauhar, who is getting various offers but has not zeroed in on anything. When asked about her favourite judge, the model said that all three "hold different positions" in her life."I am fond of all the three judges. They all have different positions in my life. Saroj Khan is someone I have been completely inspired by and I respect. Juhi Chawla is someone who always understood me."As far as Vaibhavi Merchant is concerned, I give a very close attention to her comments because she comes out with a fair judgement and since I am passionately in love with dance, I pay a lot of heed to her instructions," Gauhar said.Gauhar, who doesn't consider anyone her competition in the show, says that at the moment she is only concentrating on bettering her performance.

"At the moment my focus is to only better myself every week. I am not concentrating on others. I want to become so good that others find it difficult to reach my level," Gauhar said.

'Jhalak...' makers wanted gossip, rivalry for TRPs: Bhagyashree

"Maine Pyaar Kiya" fame put on her dancing shoes for the third season of reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" but became the first one to get voted out. She says the show was more about generating gossip and creating rivalry than about dancing alone."For me, 'Jhalak...' was a wonderful opportunity to learn dance. But after joining, I found out that it wasn't really just a dance reality show," Bhagyashree told IANS over phone from Mumbai."They wanted a strong element of gossip, rivalry, competition, flirting, etc and I couldn't get myself to be a part of all that. It's not me and it's not the way I have been brought up," she added.

Bhagyashree's presence on the show came as a surprise. The actress, who claimed to have two left feet when it came to dancing, says she accepted the offer because she was keen to "learn how to dance"."When I was asked to participate, it was given that it is a programme where non-dancers would get to learn different types of dance forms and would then perform. But sadly, it didn't turn out to be so."People actually came up to me and said, 'Why don't you go ahead and just do something (gossip, backbiting) for TRPs?' For me, a reality show like 'Jhalak...' was supposed to be like its international counterpart 'Dancing With The Stars' - people fall and get hurt there for real, people get angry at their choreographers if they can't learn a step - but what was happening here put me off entirely," she said. She disliked the way things were manipulated on the show. But Bhagyashree enjoyed working with her choreographer Toby Fernandes and performing on stage and says she won't mind going back to the show. The show is going to have one of the evicted contestants to join back as the wild card entry and Bhagyashree says she would like to be the lucky one.

"I'm looking forward to the wild card entry because I had a fantastic choreographer and teacher in the form of Toby Fernandes. I have learnt dancing from him. The only thing I was upset about was they were trying to project me as someone else and I didn't like that. But I have forgiven them because I can't hold vengeance against anyone."For now, the 40-year-old actress, who hails from Maharashtra, is excited about the release of her first ever Marathi film "Zhak Marli Bayko Keli".In the film, Bhagyashree plays a woman whose husband gets romantically involved with another woman. On being asked about her experience of doing the film, she said: "It feels wonderful to be doing a film finally in my mother tongue. I always looked forward to working in one but somehow it didn't work - either the script wasn't right or I didn't have dates or there was some or the other issue. So all these things made it nearly impossible for me to do any Marathi film."Bhagyashree is also doing a Bollywood film titled "Red Alert - The War Within" along with Suniel Shetty. She is looking forward to doing more films in Hindi because she feels "the industry today is booming with new themes and subjects that are being treated with a fresh perspective".

"A very different kind of cinema is being experimented with in the industry. So I would surely want to be back in Bollywood with something different."

Saakshi Tanwar, who played the character of distressed Parvati in "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki", says she would return to the small screen if she is offered romantic comedy roles.

Saakshi is now working for her upcoming film "Coffee House".

"Right now I am not working in any soap because I have no interest doing the same kind of role (like in 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki'). I have done lots of roles that portray sadness. Now I want to play some romantic comedy roles," she said.

Saakshi essayed Parvati's role for eight years and later hosted a reality show "Yeh Hai Jalwa" and played the role of Ganga in Ekta Kapoor's mythology-based show "Kahaani Humaaray Mahabhaarat Ki".

Talking about her role in "Kahaani...", she said: "It was great!! When I started I never thought that people will like Parvati's character so much. While playing that character, I learnt about different relationships too."

Now Saakshi is gearing up for the release of "Coffee House", being jointly produced by Shiv Kala Motion Pictures and Marwaha Films. She will be playing actor Ashutosh Rana's wife in the film.

On her upcoming film, Saakshi said: "The story of the film is about a coffee house and groups of different people.

"It depicts youth, unemployed, retired and old people. The film has feelings, humour, pain and joy which will make the audience search for a few answers in their own lives."
